Hyderabad, May 24: Ramoji Krian Universe (RKU), which is in the advanced stage of evolving into a State Private University, has introduced specialized courses in the realm of design education, which are integrated with media and business. The institute’s Faculty of Design Skills has come up with some extremely focused and industry oriented post-graduate diploma courses, namely PG Diploma in Animation, Special Effects & Visual Effects; PG Diploma in Graphics for Print, Cyber and Television; PG Diploma in Photography; PG Diploma in Game Art, Design and Business and PG Diploma in Fashion & Textile Design & Technology.

Design creates a big commercial value in industries such as FMCG, hospitality, automobiles, fashion, tourism, celluloid and many more. In order to grow a business, it is essential to promote the product amongst the common public with the help of advertising. Promotional ad films and graphical advertisements have become integral parts of marketing communication.

Audio-visual promotional content is essential in the field of broadcast media, which includes both the television industry and the film industry. Other than film promos, which has been existing for many years, the television industry has also come up with the concept of short promotional content for television series.

Portrayal of an image or a concept with the help of animation or illustrations attracts every individual irrespective of age. It has been found out that animation is a common concept in the world of books, editorials, comics, cartoons, editorial cartoons, e-Wallet etc. Advertisements in the form of animation have been a well accepted concept among the audience.

It is pertinent to mention here that RKU is a joint venture between Ramoji Film City (RFC) and Krian Media. RFC happens to be the largest integrated film city in the world in addition to being the country’s only thematic holiday destination.

Spread across 2,000 acres of land, the film city was established in the year 1996 by the Ramoji Group. The campus has four sets of hotels which include a luxury one and a comfort one. There is a total of 156 gardens inside the campus. The Film City produces more than 100 films per year. It is home to ‘Symphony’, which is Asia’s leading Sound Engineering Studio. No wonder that about 1.5 million tourists visit RFC every year.

RKU is currently being led by the inimitable Prof. Ujjwal K. Chowdhury, who played a significant role in reshaping the landscape of media education in the country. Having served as the dean of prestigious institutes such as Symbiosis International University, Amity University and Whistling Woods International; Prof. Chowdhury pioneered the concept of convergence in media education.

Prof. Sabbir Hussain, the Chief Mentor for PG Diploma in Animation, Special Effects and Visual Effects, offered by RKU, has a cumulative experience ranging more than a couple of decades in multiple genres which include animation, television journalism, programme direction, production and creative direction. Prof. Hussain said, “Our courses in design aims at teaching the technicalities of making creative ad films. The course will also deal with television content for both news and programming. After the completion of the course, the learners would be equipped to work for the creative departments across the audio-visual media industry.”

With the advent of media convergence, job opportunities in creative fields have multiplied. The PG Diploma in Graphics for Print, Cyber and Television has been specially designed to make the learners equipped to work for the creative department of print as well as online media.

Sayak Pal, the Chief Mentor for PG Diploma in Graphics, Cyber and Television is an academician with past experiences at Symbiosis and Amity University. Sayak said, “The course has been divided into two modules – basic module and advanced module. The basic module deals with the basics of designing in Print, Cyber and Television Media. The advanced module would deal with advanced graphic user experience to design for print, cyber and television media”.

Neha Hooda, the Chief Mentor for PG Diploma in Photography has worked with prestigious studios such as FutureWorks, Prime Focus, Cinesite and Framestore. Neha said, “Photography has interesting and promising career prospects. The fact that the course is being launched at RKU makes it even better. RKU has the rare advantage of being situated in Asia’s biggest Film City. This brings in the advantage of exploring endless possibilities in terms of learning the art form and interacting with the industry. The learning methodology at RKU is way more professional than any other media college.”

Varunan, the Chief Mentor for PG Diploma in Game Art, Design and Business said, “As gaming is at its nascent stage, there is a huge potential which is yet to be tapped in India.Technological innovations like augmented reality, virtual reality and gaming are reshaping the way digital domain functions and that leaves a huge scope in India.”

There is a complete dearth in talents and appropriate education, which is why at RKU, with the right blend of creative quotient and technology, the courses are framed to teach students with the best skills required for the industry and also to give them a creative career ahead Such specialized courses in the field of design would enable the learners to work in the creative department across various industries. This would also create opportunities for the individual to freelance.
